Q.	Chrysler actually suggest a Gel Battery for the Grand Voyager, is this correct? What does AGM mean?
A.	Customers and service agents often get the two mixed up, but I can assure you that the Mopar battery is AGM. They are similar in the way that they have no wet acid in them. But they differ in internal make up. Gel batteries have their electrolyte as a gel around the lead plates whereas AGM batteries have their electrolyte Absorbed into a Glass Matt (AGM). This gives them different properties, the main being their susceptibility to damage from high charging rates. Gel batteries can easily be damaged from high charging rates (from alternators) whereas AGM is much more hardy. This is why Gel batteries are not used in cars. You will see people calling them Gel batteries all over the internet. Even in car dealerships the service agents don´t know the difference. When you are told you need a Gel battery they actually mean AGM! The Optima RTC4.2 is powerful enough and is a spiral wound AGM battery.
