Tayna.co.uk obtains EV ‘Green Bar’ SSL Certificate
October 31, 2008 on 11:53 am | By Jo | In What's Happening? | No Comments
It is with great pleasure that I can announce that Tayna.co.uk has just become the first UK battery site to qualify for and introduce the new EV ‘Green Bar’ SSL certificate.
As we all know, in this day and age you should never enter personal and confidential information into a website unless the site has an SSL certificate. This certificate ensures that all information transmitted from you to the website is encrypted and cannot be read if intercepted. This is all well and good, but what if the person who owns the website cannot be trusted with this data..? After all, anybody can buy an SSL certificate for as little as £15.00.
This is where the EV (Extended Verification) SSL certificate comes in. Anybody who applies for an EV certificate has to undergo a series of detailed financial and identification procedures to confirm their identity, aimed at removing the element of risk when purchasing for an SSL secured website.
You can identify an EV SSL secured website by the ‘Green Bar’ that appears in your browser as below:

Further details on EV SSL security checks can be found on the Certification Authority Browser Forum website.
Tayna Introduces Cycle to Work Scheme
October 9, 2008 on 3:53 pm | By Jo | In Cycle Scheme | No CommentsTayna Ltd are pleased to announce the implementation of our Cycle to Work Scheme!
The government incentives for us all to go green, however misguided they may or may not be have led to the Dept of Transport introducing a Cycle to Work scheme aimed at encouraging employees to leave their car at home.
In brief, the benefits to employees are:
- VAT free bike
- Tax free bike
The obvious clause is that the main purpose of the purchased cycle and accessories has to be to travel to work.
As a company, we investigated the broker type companies that have appeared since the introduction of the scheme; the biggest of which is probably cyclescheme.co.uk. The benefit of this appear to be that cyclescheme manage the purchase for you and deal with all invoicing etc. In our case, being a small/medium sized company we found this to be easier to do ourselves… why involve another layer of complexity?! Another benefit of purchasing the cycles ourselves was that we were able to negotiate a 15% discount from West End Cycles… however since broker companies make their money by taking a ‘finders fee’ it is unusual to pay less than the RRP of the bikes.
Each of us have now chosen and taken delivery of our new bikes and are set for a Winter of cycling to work… check back soon for some photos of us using our new equipment!
