Despite the weather being very cold, and the bike having been stood for a while with a weak battery incapable of turning the starter, the new Varta battery spun the engine over until it burst into life. I had previously bought a new Varta battery for my 4x4, which produced a similar transformation.

A low cost battery compared to others. I fitted one to a bike that was not being ridden. Yes I remembered to charge (most of the time). Never leaving it to go into deep discharge. After 3 years one cell failed so I have replaced it. By the same battery. Basically I am assuming that I had a bit of bad luck as Varta is generally thought of as an OK brand.
