PU220 Powerline UPS Battery Pack

I ordered these in January 2024 to replace the standard UPS batteries which had lasted approx. 8 years. These are 17Ah as mentioned in other reviews with the standard batteries being 18Ah, and the difference in weight is certainly notable. Approx. 2 years down the line (1 month out of the 2 year warranty window to be precise), and they have started to fail. The UPS power drops to ~50% capacity within 2 minutes on battery power, and there is quite an acrid smell while they batteries charge back up. They cost 1/5 of a genuine RBC7, and seem to last 1/5 as long AS a genuine RBC7 (at least in my case). If you don't mind swapping out batteries more frequently, then these should do to get you back up & running.

I had exactly four years out of a pair of Lucas LSLC22-12G batteries in an APC SUA1500I sitting in a cosy attic, so it'll be interesting to see how these Powerline batteries fare, although we've recently installed a load of Powerlines in our UPSes at work without issue (and with a massive saving over OEM packs). The current crop of "17Ah" Powerlines look rather on the "full" side (look at the photo of the PL20-12 as an example, and the position of the terminals relative to the lid). The terminals are even higher than those on the Lucas 22Ah models. I wouldn't be surprised if they're closer to 23Ah in capacity. They'll still take a 100A fuse upright on top and fit into the UPS, though. One hint for these: don't use double sided tape to fix them together, you'll make the pack too wide. Instead, put a band of reinforced packing tape or line marking tape around the batteries' midriff to strap them together, then fit the cable, then finally fit the fuse. Do it that way round as you can't accidentally short out the cable end if the fuse isn't fitted yet.

Very nice battery, and far cheaper than the genuine pack from APC. Has a nice heavy feel to it and the plastic looks high quality.

We have purchased batteries from Tayna in the past and would give them all 5* for price and performance with no issues. We purcahsed these to replace 11 year old batteries in an APC UPS and the price is amazing. They were installed, tested, and have been working perfectly. 2 days after installation the power in our office was tripped due to building work going on and the batteries held up fine for the short timeit was off. I have knocked off 1* because I ffound these slightly larger than the originals which had a thin foam sheet between the two batteries. I initially tried fitting a similar sheet between the two Powerline batteries but the batteries got stuck trying to insert them and I had to disassemble the whol eunit to get them back out. I then removed the foam sheet and managed to install them but they were still a little tight, however all is now well. Just be aware this may be a problem depending upon the unit you are installing them into.

Very easy to swap into APC UPS (SMT1500i), only time will tell on their longevity.
